Thirds House
Location: Redhill, Surrey
Client: Private
Project Type: Extension
The client wanted to extend their kitchen in their Victorian semi-detached house to create a better balance of space on the ground floor and a better flow to the garden. The extension wraps around the house, removing the existing external wall, creating an open inviting kitchen. Key elements of the existing structure were retained, and incorporated into the kitchen / utility design for not only economical efficient design but created a clean uncluttered atmosphere.
The primary constraint was to be careful that the design did not restrict the natural light entering the dining room. This was overcome by deliberate placement of rooflights, and internal high-level glazing hidden from eye level.
